はじめに・・・

彼の音楽にどれだけ想い出がつまっているだろう・・・
彼のレコードを何回聴いたろう・・・
久しぶりに来日しておくれよ、今度はいけるからさ・・・

洋楽を聴くようになってから最初にはまった Howard Jones。ソロデビューからブレイクし、実は今も現役。今までの大きな音楽の影響を受けた５本の指に入るでしょう。New Song でデビューし、一人でステージをこなすテクノポップ系の英国人。その歌詞は哲学的でもあり、メッセージ色も強い。メロディーは覚えやすく、声もいいよね。What Is Love ? が懐かしい。デビュー同時の髪型はチェッカーズにまねされたね（笑）。先日ビデオを発見して思わず買ってしまったよ。お互い若かったねあの頃は（笑）。

お気に入りは・・・　〜その１〜

なんといっても最初は What' Is Love ? に限りますね。親しみやすいメロディー、そしてどことなく切なさもあり。それなりにプロモーションビデオのインパクトもありました（イギリスの町並みでHoward Jonesの身振り手振りがそのままフォーカスされている人のアクションになってしまうという部分が組み込まれてますねぇ）。そして英語力が乏しくても判るタイトルの意味。確かにねという事です。Howard Jonesの曲の原点でもあると思います。
あとは Hide and Seek も印象深いです。情緒的というか、静かで落ち着く曲風。なんとなく喜多郎などを思い起こさせる雰囲気が好きですね。あいかわらずわかりやすい曲風ですしね。少し飛んで Like To Get To Know You Well も好きです。今までの曲風を残しつつ今後の変化が見え隠れするといいましょうか。これもまたちょっと切なさがあるような曲風ですよね。自分でベストを組むと必ずこれらは入りますね（笑）。さて今回はこれまでと。


2001新譜

なんと、新譜がでています。すでにご紹介したやつですが、metamorphosisというアルバムです。少し前に欧州で発売されたアルバムの日本版だそうです。発売日を「ぴあ」でチェックし、発売日に某VirginMegastoreで探索。ありましたよ！一枚だけ（涙）。新譜を探してもないから・・・HoJoのコーナーを探したら。でも手に入ったのでうれしい！しかしこのアルバム、セルフリメイクにふさわしくぷちベストとなっています。何より、生音になったアルバムは臨場感に溢れライブの様です。エレクトリックポップだったとは思えないくらいです。そうなっても基本メロディーラインはそのままです、安心して聴いてください。新譜でない新譜ですが？新曲につつまれている不思議なアルバムです。オリジナルの雰囲気を損なっているというのとも違いますからHoward Jonesファンにはお薦めです。これを機に本当の新曲のつまったアルバムを出してほしい、活動を続けてほしいですね。できれば来日も！！
